Old Bethpage Elementary School

My fourth grade friends at Old Bethpage Elementary School.

Mrs Cabrera, Mrs Kagen and all of the wonderful students in your class.

I feel very lucky. I have always wanted a way to get the younger generations of our country interested in Agriculture. Mrs Cabrera, a student teacher at Old Bethpage Elementary School has figured out how.

As a class project she had each student write letters to me after reading about our farm in “The Edible East End”.  I thought it would be a cute and fun adventure.

I can honestly tell you all that as I was reading each letter I was overcome with so many emotions. Each letter touched me in a special way. When I finished all of the letters I read them again. These kids are great. I would like to take this opportunity to invite every person who reads this post to get involved with our youth, somehow or another.  It is incredibly rewarding. I feel renewed and excited to start another growing season. Its amazing how a pencil and paper can have such an impact on a person. We’ve lost so many things in our rapid paced society today. These kids poured all of their thoughts and ideas on paper. I will cherish these letters with my other family treasures.  What you get back in return for you time is rewarded millions of times over.

To my new friends , the 4th graders who wrote to me,

I loved each and every letter that I received from you all. You guys are so smart and have such great ideas! I am going to try some of them out this season.

Most of all you are all very kind and caring young people. I want you all to know that in my heart you are not just the students that wrote to me, now for me you are all very special friends. I love you all very much and I hope I can meet you all in person someday.

Being a farmer is a very hard job and it doesn’t pay much  money. Thanks to you all I want to work even harder now. You have given me the gifts of excitement and energy, and most of all your friendship.

Every single person who reads this will know what special people you are. And everyone will know that Mrs. Davis is proud to call you her friend.

Be safe. Do well in school. Listen to your parents. We will meet soon.

All of my love,

Mrs. Davis
